surah

Name
The Surah gets its name from verse 35, when Prophet Ibrahim is mentioned (Abraham). However, this does not imply that it includes Prophet Abraham's life story. The name, which refers to the surah in which Abraham is mentioned, is only a symbol covering the names of numerous other surahs.

Period of Revelation
The tone of the Surah suggests that it is one of those Surahs that were revealed in the final stages of the Makkan period. For example, verse 13 ("The disbelievers warned their Messengers, "You shall have to return to our community or we will undoubtedly expel you from our land") amply demonstrates that the persecution of Muslims was at its height at the time of the revelation of this Surah, and the Makkans were determined to expel the Believers from their city like the disbelievers of the previous Prophets. Because of this, in verse 14 they are forewarned, "We will destroy these evil doers," and the Believers are consoled, "And after them, establish you on the land." The stern warning in the final section is similar (vv. 43-52 also confirms that the Surah relates to the last stage of the Makkan Period.)

Central Theme and Purpose
This Surah serves as a reprimand and a warning to the unbelievers who were rejecting the Holy Prophet's Message and coming up with crafty plans to thwart his Mission. However, caution, rebuke, condemnation, and reprimand outweigh exhortation. This is due to the fact that a lot of warnings had already been given in the Surahs before, but despite this, their obstinacy, hostility, animosity, mischief, persecution, etc., had actually increased.
