Name

It was reported that the reason Surat Abbas was given this name is because it is about the incident of the blind man Ibn Umm Maktoum, and the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Period of Revelation

Surah Abbas was revealed when a delegation from the Quraysh came to the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace -, and it included the leaders of the Quraysh, Utbah and Shaybah, the sons of Rabia, Abu Jahl, and Al-Abbas to invite them to Islam.

The Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace - was keen on their conversion to Islam. Because the Islam of the leaders of the Quraysh will be a reason for the conversion of others and their followers to Islam, and while he was inviting them, Abdullah Ibn Umm Maktum - may God be pleased with him - approached him, and he was blind and did not know that he was preoccupied with them. .

And he began to repeat the call to the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace -, and the Messenger did not respond to him and turned to those who were with him from the Quraysh and preoccupied with their call, so the verses were revealed from Surat Abbas.
