Name

Surat Al-Taghabun was so named because it is derived from the mention of the Day of Resurrection in the ninth verse, for it is the day of loss and gain, and Al-Taghabun is one of the names of the Day of Resurrection.

Period of Revelation

Surah Al-Taghabun is a Medinan Surah according to most scholars. Al-Dahhak bin Muzahim said, "Makkiyyah." Al-Kalbi said, " It is both Meccan and Madinan.
The first verses of Surat Al-Taghabun were revealed to show the power of God Almighty in creating the heavens and the earth, and His ability to create human beings, and to remind the disbelievers that they will have a painful reckoning in the Hereafter, and so that the disbelievers can be sure that the resurrection is true and the Day of Resurrection is true.

One of the reasons for the revelation of Surat Al-Taghabun is that there were some who converted to Islam and entered Islam, but there are some of their families and children who try to prevent them from going to the Messenger, God's prayer and peace be upon him, to announce his conversion to Islam. and there were those among them who longed for their family and did not go, and Ibn Abbas said: a man used to become a Muslim, and when he wanted to emigrate, his family and son prevented him and said: we implore you by God, you want to go and leave your family and clan to "Al-Madinah" without family and money, so are some of them who like them, lives and does not emigrate.
The verses from the fourteenth to the eighteenth were revealed because of this matter.

Theme and topics

Surat Al-Taghabun deals with many issues and explains them as follows:

It states that God Almighty is glorified and praised for the shortcomings of people in the heavens and the earth, and that He is the only One who deserves praise. For He is the Creator - praised be He.
I have dealt with the types of people in terms of dividing them into a believer and a disbeliever, and it contains a warning against disbelieving in the Creator and denying the message of the Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him-, and it contains a call to reflect on the previous peoples and what happened to them when they denied the Messengers and the verses, because it contains a statement that things happen only as it is required by Allah

I have dealt with the reasons for salvation in the hereafter, for it is only through faith in God - the Almighty - alone and faith in His Messenger and the Book he brought, with faith in the resurrection, and whoever believes in this, God Almighty will forgive his bad deeds, otherwise his reward will be the fire.

It shows that God - the Almighty - has confirmed His faithful servants despite the calamities they have suffered at the hands of the unbelievers. This is due to their faith and trust in their Lord. It also contains a warning from God Almighty to the faithful against some of their polytheistic kinsmen and their attempts to dissuade them from faith and emigration. It exhorts them to be patient with whatever harm comes to them, and urges them therein to spend themselves in the way of God Almighty, and commands them to fear piety and to hear and obey the commandments of God Almighty and His Messenger.

He warns the disbelievers and the hypocrites of the torments in this world and the hereafter, and urges them to believe in God Almighty and His messengers. With the remembrance of God - the Most High - at the beginning, that He is the only one who is about sovereignty and praise.

It was mentioned in the Surah about the day of At-Taghabun. It is the Day of Resurrection, and that people will be divided in it according to their deeds, so that some of them will be among the people of Paradise and some of them will be among the people of Hell, as I mentioned the importance of obedience to God Almighty and His Messenger and the danger of transgression. At the end of the sura, the enemies of man in his life are pointed out, and it exhorts man to be close to his Lord so that he may be safe from them.

The Surah talked about the praise of the creatures and the wisdom behind the creation of God - the Almighty - for the creation, and mentioned some previous peoples and their denial of the resurrection and the day of resurrection, and dealt with the reward, the punishment and the reward. And I told about the hostility of some people close to man, such as his family and children, and the surah called for piety as much as possible, pointing out that God Almighty multiplies the reward for His pious servants and that He is aware of all His creation.
