History of surah The Calamity
Name
The reason for calling Surat Al-Qara'a by this name is because of what the noble Surah began with. The Surah began with the word "al-Qara'a", and al-Qara'a is one of the names of the Day of Resurrection, and beginning with this word conveys a sense of intimidation and fear of the horrors of that day.
Period of Revelation
Among the Meccan and civil surahs, Surah Al-Qara'a is one of the Meccan surahs. That is, it was revealed in Mecca Al-Mukarramah by the consensus of the people of knowledge and interpretation according to what is written in their books. As for the order of revelation, Surat Al-Qara'a was revealed after Surat Quraish, just as it was mentioned that Surat Al-Qara'a was revealed before Surat Al-Qiyamah.
Most of the suras of the Holy Qur'an had a reason for their revelation, but the Surat al-Qara'a was not mentioned in the books dealing with the reasons for the revelation of the sura. For example, in the book "Asbab al-Nuzul" by al-Wahidi and the book "Lab al-Naqul fi Asbab al-Nuzul" by al-Suyuti and other books of "Asbab al-Nuzul" or books of interpretation or hadiths that talk about a clear reason for the revelation of Surat al-Qara'a.
