History of surah The Dunes
Name
It was called "Surah Al-Ahqaf" because it is the dwellings of Ad, those whom God destroyed by their tyrann, and their dwellings were in Al-Ahqaf in the land of Yemen.
Period of Revelation
Surat Al-Ahqaf is the last of the seven Al-Hawamim, and it is very likely that Al-Ahqaf was revealed at a time close two years before the Hijrah.
Al-Thalabi said according to the authority of Abi Salih according to the authority of Ibn Abbas: When the affliction worsened among the companions of the Messenger of God, he saw in a dream that he would emigrate to a land of palm trees, trees, and water, and told this to his companions, whereupon they rejoiced and saw in it a relief from that in which they were because they had harmed by the polytheists: When will we emigrate to the land you have seen? The messenger of God was silent. Then God Almighty revealed, { Say: "I am no bringer of new-fangled doctrine among the apostles, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I follow.} [Al-Ahqaf:9] I mean, I do not know whether I should go to the place I saw in my dream or not, then he said, It is only something I saw in my dream. I only follow what was revealed to me. Then he said " that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner"
