Name

Surah Al-Munafiqun was named by this name in reference to the hypocrites, about whom the Surah speaks in an introductory manner and then explains their characteristics, conditions, and their diverse and hostile attitudes towards the Messenger of God - may God bless him and grant him peace.

Period of Revelation

Surah Al-Munafiqun is one of the civil surahs, that is, it was revealed in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, by consensus of the people of knowledge and interpretation.
In the book of Al-Waseet, it was mentioned that some verses of Surat Al-Munafiqun were revealed in the battle of Bani Al-Mustaliq, which took place in the fifth year of Hijrah, and some scholars mentioned that it was revealed in the battle of Tabuk, which is a weak statement.

Theme and topics

Surah Al-Munafiqun contains a number of purposes, which we explain as follows:

- The disbelief of the hypocrites in their assertion of faith and in their oaths with which they supported the assertion of their faith, and they are in fact nothing but disbelievers who obstruct the way of God, and it became clear that they believed but then disbelieved and persisted in their disbelief so that God sealed their hearts and prevented them from accepting the truth.

- I have shown that their outward appearance is different from their inwardness. When you see their bodies, you like them and think that they are helpful, determined and honest people.

- The surah has made it clear that they are the enemy, and the Messenger, God's prayer and peace be upon him, has warned against them and shown that they do not care about the hypocrisy that their Lord has raised against them.

- The surah makes it clear that God Almighty will not forgive their hypocrisy, whether the Messenger asks for forgiveness on their behalf or not.

- The Sura concluded by forbidding the believers from letting their money and children distract them from the remembrance of God and asking them to spend what God has provided for them for good and to hurry with it before their time comes, so that they will regret not having worked for themselves before they died.
