History of surah The Overwhelming
Name
Surat Al-Ghashiya was given this name because the word Al-Ghashiya is mentioned in the first verse of the Surah and Al-Ghashiya is one of the names for the Day of Resurrection.
Period of Revelation
Surat Al-Ghashiya is one of the Meccan Suras revealed to the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, in Mecca Al-Mukarramah, and it is the eighty-eighth Sura in the order of the noble Quran, and it was revealed after Surat Al-Dhariyat.
One of the reasons for the revelation of Surat Al-Ghashiya is to learn about the horrors of the Day of Resurrection and its terrors for the disbelievers and the extent of the torment that awaits them. And one of the reasons for the revelation of Surat Al-Ghashiya is to describe the bliss that awaits the righteous believers in Paradise
