History of surah The Pleading Woman
Name
It was called "Surah Al-Mujadala" because it began with the case of an argument with the wife of Aws bin Al-Samit when he said to her, "You are like my mother." She came to Prophet Muhammad and he answered her that she had been forbidden to her husband. She did not stop to reconsider him until God sent down these verses that clarified the verdict.
Period of Revelation
It is the one hundred and thirteenth surah in the series of revelations of surahs of the Quran. It was revealed after Surat Al-Munafiqun and before Surat Al-Tahrim, and this means that the revelation of Surat Al-Mujadalah took place between the Treaty of Hudaybiyah and the Battle of Tabuk, as Surah Al-Munafiqun was revealed after the Battle of Banu Al-Mustaliq in the fifth year of Hijrah. And Shams Al-Din Al-Sakhawi said, "Surat Al-Mujadalah was revealed after Surat Al-Munafiqin and before Surat Al-Hujurat."
Surat Al-Mujadalah was revealed to clarify a number of Islamic rules, but the main reason for its revelation was the ruling in the case of Aws bin Al-Samit with his wife Khawla. This woman complained to Prophet Muhammad about her husband after he forbade her. This woman is Khawla bint Thalabah. It was said that the reason for this case was that her husband had seen her praying, and she was of a beautiful figure. When she finished her prayer, he wanted to have her, but she refused, and he became angry and had bad manners.
