surah

Name
It was called "Surat Al-Dukhan" because God Almighty made it a verse to intimidate the disbelievers when they were afflicted with drought and famine because of their disbelief in the Messenger and God sent smoke upon them until they were about to perish, then saved them with the blessing of the supplication of the Prophet.

Period of Revelation

Surat Al-Dukhan was revealed after Surat Al-Zukhruf,
According to the testimony of Ibn Masoud, he said, " When the Quraysh rebelled against the Prophet, he prayed for them for years like Yusuf, so they were plagued by drought and exhaustion until they ate bones. Then a man began to look at the sky and he saw that what was between him and him was in the form of smoke from exertion, so God sent down, " Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke" Then the Messenger of God came and it was said, " O Messenger of God, ask for rain, So he asked for rain, and it rained, and it was revealed, " Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert." When prosperity afflicted them, they returned to their condition, so God revealed, " The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution."

Theme and topics

The context of the sura is almost like a coherent unit, with an axis on which all the threads are pulled. Whether in this story, the scene of the resurrection, the cosmic scene and the direct speech on the theme of monotheism, the resurrection and the message, they are all means and influences to awaken the human heart and its appeal to receive the truth of faith alive and vibrant as this Quran sends it to the hearts.

The martyr Sayyid Qutb, may God have mercy on him, summarized the aims of this Surah by saying, "It is a Surah that attacks the human heart from its beginning to its end, in a rapid and continuous rhythm; between heaven and earth, this world and the hereafter, hell and heaven, past and present, the unseen and the seen, death and life, the norms of creation and the laws of existence... it is - despite its relative brevity - a tremendous journey into the world of the invisible.
