Name
It was called "Surat Al-Ankabut" because in it God cites the spider as an example of grave sins, and the alleged gods are "the example of those who take guards beside God like the spider that is brought home."

Period of Revelation
It was revealed at the end of the life of the Companions in Makkah before the migration, and this stage was one of the harshest stages in their lives. So it was revealed to confirm the believers in faith, and not to be tempted by what they are exposed to from the polytheists
Al-Shaabi said: It was revealed about people who were in Mecca and had recognised Islam. Then the companions of the Prophet from Medina wrote to them that neither the confession nor Islam will be accepted by you until you emigrate, whereupon they went to Medina, then this verse was revealed to them, and they wrote to them that such and such verse was sent down upon you, and they said, "We are going out, and if anyone follows us, we will fight him," and they went out, but the polytheists followed them, so they fought them, and some of them were killed, others were saved. So he killed him, and the Prophet said, " He’s the master of the martyrs, and he is the first from this people to be called to the gate of Paradise. Musab bin Saad bin Abi Waqqas said according to his father that he said: This verse was revealed about me. He said, Umm Saad swore not to speak to him until he atoned for his religion, and she did not eat or drink. She stayed for three days until she fainted from exertion, whereupon God Almighty revealed, (We have imposed kindness on man towards parents; but if they want to force you to do something you have no idea about, then disobey them. You must return (all of you) to me, and I will tell you (the truth) about all that you have done) Delivered by Muslim on the authority of Abu Khaithama.

Theme and topics
Surah Al-Ankabut is Meccan and its theme is the belief in its main principles, unity, message, resurrection and reward. The axis of the noble sura revolves around faith and the year of affliction in this life, because the Muslims in Mecca were in the most severe forms of trial and affliction, and for this reason the theme of turmoil and affliction came up extensively and in detail in this sura, especially when mentioning the stories of the prophets.
